Great Pacific Garbage Patch
Also known as the Pacific trash vortex. It comprises marine debris in the North Pacific Ocean. It has water from the western coast of South America to Japan precisely Between Hawaii and California. As the name suggests it is an area where litter ends up in oceans and seas.
Do you know?
94 percent of the plastics in
this patch are actually tiny pieces of plastic that are so small that you can’t
see them with naked eyes. To give you an idea of how small- It is smaller than
a grain of rice.
This garbage patch is found to be the largest. This waste accumulates
because they are non biodegradable. Marine debris tends to be collected in
swirling currents known as gyres.
So now you must be thinking that it can be cleaned and we can give a
smile to our ocean creatures.
Sadly no, too an extent we can but not completely! Companies around the
world are taking charge of cleaning the ocean. Ocean Cleanup a Dutch Company
has invested 32 million dollars in 2019 to clean the Pacific Great Patch.
Ocean Acidification
Ocean water is getting acidic. In the past 200 years, the
ocean’s pH has dropped by 0.1 pH units. Ocean waters have become 30 percent
more acidic. Acidic water isn’t conducive for the living creatures living in
Oceans, especially corals and clams. Warm weather referred to as a blob is
believed to be the cause of death in a higher percentage. Marine mammals like
sea lions and otters were found dead in the U.S.
West Coast.
Scientists concluded that anthropogenic Climate change may be the reason for
warming ocean water. For more scientific information visit our site : Eduauraa
Conclusion:
The
Pacific Ocean is the largest with the deepest facts and unimaginable creatures.
Human activities like overfishing, deep-sea mining, and fossil fuel burning are
changing the ocean in significant ways. It’s important to save our ocean. We as
a part of this planet must take small steps to save our environment, to have a
happy and smiling planet.
